Versatile module combines RTC IC and crystal oscillator to simplify design and save power
2005-06-01
Now available from specialist distributor DT Electronics is a combined real time clock (RTC) and crystal oscillator module from Ricoh that simplifies design and saves on power consumption.
Dubbed R2025S/D, the module provides time counters in hours, minutes and seconds, and calendar counters in years, months, days and weeks, in BCD format. Offering a super low power consumption figure of 1.2µA maximum at a VDD of 3V, the module is ideal for use in applications where low power consumption is important.
The R2025S/D features a built-in 32.768kHz crystal that is pre-adjusted at high precision i.e. 5±5ppm at 25°C. Showing versatility, the device operates from a time keeping voltage of 1.15V to 5.5V. Time trimming is available to account for seasonal variations and temperature corrections.
Through an I2C-Bus interface, the R2025S/D has an interrupt circuit configured to generate signals to the CPU and has available an interrupt flag and an interrupt halt.
The versatile module has selectable 12hr and 24hr mode settings and features automatic identification of leap years up to year 2099. Supply voltage monitoring is included with two supply voltage monitoring threshold settings.
The module is available; the lower cost R2025S in SOP14 and the smaller (6.3×5.0×1.3mm) R2025D SON22.
Offering designers a single module RTC and crystal oscillator solution, the R2025S/D is ideal for use in any low power, high precision application such as power meters, servers and vending machines. The Ricoh R2025S/D is available ex-stock from DT Electronics, who are able to provide in-depth application device and full product backup.
