User guide (pdf)

Now available from DT Electronics, the AVRISP2 is based on the very successful AVRISP but is improved in a number of ways. This replaces the AVRISP and is more robust & decreases the programming time significantly compared to its predecessor. The main AVRISP mkII features are:

  • USB interface: host powered & USB 2.0 compliant (full speed, 12Mbps).
  • Fast: 4x compared to AVRISP.
  • 128K Flash: erase, program and verify in 12 seconds.
  • Robust: improved robustness compared with AVRISP and with short circuit protection & over voltage protection.
  • Supports all AVR devices with ISP interface: programs both Flash and EEPROM and supports fuses & lock bit programming.
  • AVR Studio compatible: AVR Studio 4.12 or later.
  • Upgradeable to support future devices.
  • Support target voltages from 1.8V to 5.5V.
  • Adjustable programming speed (50Hz to 8MHz SCK frequency).
  • Powered from USB, does not require external power supply.
  • DOS command line software for small volume production.

Considerations when moving from the AVRISP to the AVRISP mkII:

AVRISP mkII support PC communication through USB only, while the AVRISP supports serial port only. For an ISP programmer with serial port communication, please use the ATSTK500. AVRISP mkII support 6 pin ISP interface only while the AVRISP supports both 10 and 6 pin ISP interface. The difference between the AVR’s 6 and 10 pin ISP interface is the number of ground lines. The signal lines are the same and there is no speed restrictions on the 6 pin interface compared to the 10 pin interface. Until now the 10 pin interface has been kept for historical reasons. Production of AVRISP has stopped.

Availability: The kit is available now ex-stock and may be ordered online from Farnell In One Order code: ATAVRISP2, Farnell In One order code: 1135517
